Cross Off My Bucket List - A Visit to St. Augustine, Florida

I've heard people say they want to cross things off their "bucket list" - Things they want to do before they die.

St. Augustine, Florida has been on my bucket list for awhile. The oldest continuously occupied city in the United States was founded in 1565 by Spanish admiral Pedro Menendez de Aviles. It is home to Flagler College and beautiful scenery on the northeast coast of Florida.

Here are a few photos of the sites we enjoyed in St. Augustine:

St. Augustine Light - 219 steps to the top
View from the deck of the Light
Mission at Nombre de Dios - in a beautiful park setting
Castillo de San Marcos

Fort Matanzas National Monument - take a short boat ride across to visit

Summer is officially over and our visit to St. Augustine was wonderful. Even more, it was awesome to spend time with our son and daughter-in-love. Thanks for showing us around!

What's on your bucket list?

  1. Thanks for sharing, Jeanne. I love St. Augustine!

I have many things on my bucket list, but one of them is a trip to the Holy Land. Another is to jump out of an airplane. :-)

  2. What a lovely trip and to be able to share it with family! I've just started thinking about a bucket list. I saw the movie and have friends crossing stuff off their lists, but I've been slow on this idea. One thing I really want to do and I have on my very small list is to learn Spanish - really learn it. I took it for four years and only learned the basics - I love the language and want to learn to speak conversationally. I'm saving up for Rosetta Stone and hope to do this in 2015. :) Thanks for asking!

  4. Vonda, a Holy Land trip is on my list as well. Just to walk where Jesus lived; to see the places in Scripture - to put places and names to what I have read and taught.
Yes, definitely on my bucket list!
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
St. Augustine was so pretty. I love the architecture, history and the scenic beauty by the ocean.

  5. Joy,
Speaking Spanish is a huge goal - I know you can do it, especially with the power that God provides. Do you have wishes to travel to Spanish speaking countries? Work with people here in thee U.S.?
Thanks for sharing your Bucket list dream.

  7. Mom,
The lighthouses in your area are on my list too. That is a plan - something to share together.

    Kristin loves lighthouses too :)

  8. Dear Jeanne,
I love your photography. And I love the idea of a bucket list. I will ask the Lord what to put on it...and then pursue. But I would really love to see the traditional publication of my book and look into the eyes of the women whose lives can be touched by the freeing love of Christ. And to think you were in St. Augustine and I live in Jacksonville. And how wonderful you have the freedom to take a sabbatical. Very inspiring indeed. Love, Margie

  9. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures. I love lighthouses. Jeff and I both have a Scottish heritage so visiting Scotland is high on my bucket list right now. Also would really like to learn Hebrew.

  10. Hi Jeanne, I have had a bucket list since I read one of T.D. Jakes books that he wrote for women in the early 2000s. He suggested no more than 30 items on one's list. Well I have done the following: completed 15, crossed off 4 as now at 74 they seem impossible, 4 are works in progress, and that leaves 7 to still act upon! After I made the list, I took a look back and realized that some of the items were part of my entire life. The title of the book is somewhere in the 19 journals from 2001-2005!
What has been accomplished on that list was only by the Grace of God and his Will for me!

  11. Margie,
I didn't know you lived so close. We flew into the JAX airport :)
I can't wait to hear some of your bucket list items :)
Another one of mine is to go on a short term mission trip.

  12. Jane,
Visiting Scotland would be awesome for sure. I have been to England, but not Ireland or Scotland. I love to see other countries and cultures.
Learning Hebrew would be a feat! Do you have any resources to help? The most I do is go to Strong's concordance and look up the meanings :)
