Praying for Those you Love - Colossians 1:9-14

Praying for my family is very important to me. (Tweet This)

This passage from Colossians 1:9-14 is the perfect prayer - one that asks God to fill each person I love with wisdom so that they can live their lives for the Lord, pleasing Him in all things.
It says:

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you.

We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way:

bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

Do you have a favorite scripture you include in your prayer time?

  1. I spend a lot of time praying for others but I usually use a specific scripture that matches their situation. I don't generally pray for someone's walk with God. This is a beautiful passage and encourages me to do this for most of my loved one and friends. Even more, it encourage me to do it for new believers and for the focus of mature ones.

    Thank you for this!

  2. I'm so glad you found this helpful, Sherry Carter. I want to pray this for myself too!!!
I guess what I find so awesome about this prayer is the simplicity of its focus - when we pray this way, we know we pray for God's will in their lives. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
